Bio
Dionte Chappell joins the Compton College women's basketball assistant coach staff for his first season in 2025.
"Dee" Chappell spent the 2023–2024 season as an assistant at Long Beach City College, helping lead the Vikings to a standout 20–10 overall record, a flawless 8–0 run to the South Coast Conference South Division championship, and an exciting run to the 3C2A State Championship quarterfinals. His work in guard development, scouting, player accountability, and in-game adjustments played an important role in LBCC’s deep playoff run.
Coach Brent said of Chappell, "He's a dynamic, detail-oriented coach whose gift for player development has helped athletes grow into confident, skilled, and mentally disciplined competitors. With over seven years of coaching experience—from youth development to the collegiate level—Chappell has earned a reputation as a high-level teacher of the game who builds athletes from the inside out.
From 2021-23, Chappell served as an assistant coach at Copper Mountain College.
Alongside his collegiate coaching career, Chappell is the founder of LR135 Basketball, one of the fastest-growing independent player development programs in Southern California. LR135 is built on three pillars:
L – Leadership
R – Resilience
135 – Maximum Effort (one percent better every day, three principles, five core habits)
Through LR135, he has trained athletes ranging from youth beginners to overseas professionals seeking refinement. His training focuses on ball-handling precision, shooting mechanics, advanced footwork, film study, decision-making, situational reads, and basketball IQ.
Coach Brent said: "What sets LR135 apart is Coach Chappell’s ability to connect with players and teach in a way that translates directly to games—not just workouts. Athletes and parents consistently praise his clarity, communication, and genuine investment in long-term growth.
"Dee's coaching philosophy centers on authentic relationships, accountability, and mastery of the fundamentals. Dee believes that players elevate when they understand why something works, not just how to do it. He teaches athletes to be students of the game, to embrace discipline, and to carry themselves with confidence on and off the court. His mission remains the same across every level he trains: to inspire athletes to master their game, compete with purpose, and believe deeply in their own greatness—on the court and in life."
