Powns and Ulmer Commit to Valley City State University

Compton, Calif. - It was announced on Monday afternoon that sophomores Andranae Powns and Niea Ulmer have committed to Valley City State University to further their basketball careers.  

Powns was the leading scorer for the Tartars this past season. She averaged 14.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She shot 32.1 percent from the field and 26 percent from beyond the arc. Powns also earned Student-Athlete of the Month twice for both November 2019 and January 2020. Powns was also awarded SCC-South All Conference Teams for both her seasons with Compton College.  

Niea led the Tartars in rebounds this past season. She was third overall in the state and second overall in conference for averaging 15.1 rebounds per game. Ulmer also averaged 1.8 blocks and 1.9 steals. She received the Student-Athlete of the Month award for the month of December and was awarded SCC-South All Conference Second Team for the 2019-20 season.  

The Valley City State University Vikings are members of the NAIA and play in the North Star Athletic Association. The Women's Basketball team made it all the way to the conference quarter finals finishing fourth overall in conference for the 2019-2020 season. Their overall game record for this past season was 12-14.
