Victoria Castillo is in her third season as head coach of Compton's softball program.
Last year, she directed Compton to new heights as the program advanced to the SoCal Regional Playoffs with a school-record 21 victories and a famous upset win over perennial South Coast Conference champion Mt. San Antonio.
Castillo coached first baseman Serena Velez to All-SCC First Team honors after Velez batted seventh in overall batting in the conference with .442 average, 11 doubles and 24 RBI.
Making All-SCC Second Team was shortstop Venezia Uribe, who batted .314, was second in the SCC with 16 doubles, belted two home runs and added 16 RBI.
Castillo previously was an assistant coach at Cypress College after playing for the Chargers. She was a member of the 2006 state championship team and was the first player to hit a walk-off home run in the state tourney finals.
Castillo served as an assistant coach at Cerritos High from 2011-2015 and helped the team win four Suburban League Championships. She helped coach them to the CIF Southern Section semifinals.
Prior to coaching, Castillo earned several accolades as a student-athlete. Playing for St. Paul High, Castillo was named three-time All-Del Rey League (2003-2005), league MVP (2005), 2005 Whittier Rotary All-Star Game MVP, 2004 Press Telegram Dream Team, and two-time All-CIF Selection (04-05).
After Cypress, Castillo went on to play at Hope International University. She earned a bachelor's degree there and then a master's at Azusa Pacific.
