The Compton College men's soccer team earned the #22 seed for this week's SoCal Regional Playoffs after a successful 8-8-3 regular season as it was one of an impressive seven teams to advance to the postseason from the state's most difficult league--the South Coast Conference.
Compton's biggest win of the season was its 1-0 upset of defending 3C2A state champion and current #3 seed El Camino back on Oct. 8. It recently down LA Harbor, 3-0, at the SCC Tournament and while Compton took eighth place in that event, it's excited about its postseason news.
Directed by head coach Jose Garcia, Compton will play at #11 Saddleback on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in a 6 p.m. Round 1 playoff match.
The team's good news continued with the announcement that four players have been selected to the All-South Coast Conference South Division Team.
Team-leading scorer Edu Beltran, a freshman forward, and frosh midfielder Daniel Franco were named to the First Team while sophomore forward Hugo Reyes (three goals, two assists) became a 2-time selection in being picked to the Second Team as was first-year goalie Alessandro Martinez.
Beltran scored seven goals and five assists for a team-best 19 points while Martinez is a stalwart at netminder with a 1.63 goals against average and 70 saves.
