Football Prepares For SCFA American Metro League Schedule

Updated 10/13: Compton College's football team is preparing for the grind of the SCFA American Metro League schedule and the Tartars expect to open league play on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Santa Ana College.

Compton (0-5 overall) put together a few big highlights despite the tough start, including Deon Johnson's 20-yard touchdown run against LA Pierce in the season opener on Sept. 2 and a 48-yard interception return for a TD by Jayden Lavender v. LA Southwest on Sept. 16.

Lavender is turning into a star on defense, leading the team with 24 tackles and two interceptions. Lineman Jason Curry has 1.5 sacks and 10 tackles and fumble recovery. Emmith Horton is another player who has played well, adding 15 tackles and two pass break-ups.

Offensively, Khalil Battle has had to work for his yards, but is a go-to running back and kick returner.

Compton announced that it has rescheduled a non-league game v. Santa Monica that was originally slated for Sept. 30. That game will now be played as the team's finale in a 1 p.m. contest at SMC on Nov. 18.
