Compton Sports Teams Attend Student Housing Groundbreaking
On January 17, team members from the Compton College 2025 baseball and softball teams attended a special groundbreaking ceremony for Compton's new student housing project.

The 256-bed housing complex is an $80.3 million project, funded by a grant under California Assembly Bill 183. It marks a major step forward in the college's commitment to enhancing the student experience and supporting their success.

The new housing facility, expected to open in the summer of 2027, will provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for students.

Attending the celebration were several distinguished guests including Assembly member Mike A. Gipson, Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, and City of Compton Mayor Emma Shariff.

Their presence underscored the strong partnerships to make the project happen. The Compton Community College District Board of Trustees has shown unwavering support and dedication to student equity.

"This is such great news for our student-athlete population and a bright future awaits for Compton Athletics," said Compton Athletic Coordinator Roberta Camacho. "Our entire college benefits from this wonderful project."
