Harrison and Camacho Selected As Athletics Dean and Athletics Coordinator

Compton College recently named a new dean and a new coordinator for the Compton College Athletics program. Dr. Tim Harrison, dean of athletics and support services, and Roberta Camacho, athletic coordinator will supervise Compton College's 13 intercollegiate sports teams, training programs, and academic resources.

Tim Harrison joined the Compton College community six months ago as interim dean of athletics and support services. He previously worked for 13 years at Ventura College, where he served as dean over a variety of departments including athletics, health, kinesiology, fine and performing arts, and off-campus programs. During his tenure, VC Athletics won five state championships, 11 Western State Conference Supremacy Awards, and six times ranked in the top 10 for community colleges in the National Athletic Two-Year College Association (NATYCA) Cup standings. Under Harrison's leadership, 13 times Pirates squads earned state scholar athlete status by the 3C2A Awards Committee. Ventura averaged a student-athlete transfer rate to four-year colleges and universities of 68%. In 2015-16, Harrison was Ventura College's interim vice president of business and administrative services. He also worked with athletics, campus faculty, and staff to renovate and upgrade athletic facilities.

Additionally, Harrison served as athletic director at Oxnard College, and spent 13 years as a basketball coach at the semi-pro, collegiate, and high school levels.

His own academic/athletic career includes playing on the men's water polo team at Diablo Valley College. Harrison went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from UC Santa Barbara; a master's degree in physical education, health, and recreation from Saint Mary's College; and an educational doctorate in higher education leadership from California Lutheran University.

Roberta Camacho is in her fifth year working with Compton College Athletics, serving previously in a variety of roles. She came to Compton College after a six-year tour as an assistant softball coach at California State University, San Bernardino. 

At St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, Camacho was head softball coach from 2010-13. In addition to her coaching duties, she was the school's public relations coordinator for four years and served as a substitute teacher. Camacho played two intercollegiate seasons of softball at California State University, Stanislaus, where she earned All-CCAA honors in 2005 and was team captain in 2006. She was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Senator of Athletics with Associated Students, Inc. She began her higher education career at Mt. San Antonio College, helping the Mounties earn its first softball state title in 2003.
 
Camacho earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from CSU Stanislaus in 2006 and later completed her master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in 2018.
