CCCAA Board Approves to Waive Season of Competition for 2020-21 Student-Athletes

Compton, Calif. – The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board meeting was held Friday morning to revisit the discussion of intercollegiate seasons scheduled for Spring 2021.

The CCCAA Board voted and approved to continue with Option 1 of the COVID-19 Working Group’s recommendations for returning to competition. Option 1 refers to the Contingency Plan which was approved on July 9, 2020. In addition to this approval the Working Group will be establishing a deadline for college presidents to opt-in or opt-out of having athletics during the 2020-21 academic year.

Furthermore, the CCCAA Board approved to waive the 2020-2021 season for all student-athletes. This waiver will allow for student-athletes to have a free season of participation during the 2020-21 academic year. Student-athletes still have to meet eligibility requirements for competition. Important to note, this waiver may not receive the same consideration with the NCAA. NAIA does honor this waiver.
