Compton, Calif. - It was announced on Friday that Sophomore Andranae Powns from Women’s basketball and Dominique Alexander from Men’s Basketball received January’s Student-Athlete of the Month. 

This will be Powns’ second student-athlete recognition this basketball season. She has consistently been one of the Tartars’ leading scorers each game and even achieved two double-double games in the month of January. Powns is currently ranked sixth in the South Coast Conference South Division for her 15.1 points per game average. 

During the month of January Alexander achieved three double-double games and one triple-double game and currently averaging 29.6 points per game at which he is ranked second in the South Coast Conference South Division. His overall field goal percentage is 46.3 and 35.5 from beyond the ark.
