The Pasadena City College men's soccer team needed a win and got just that on Friday in a physical, South Coast Conference victory over visiting Compton, 1-0, on Friday.

It was the Lancers first SCC win in four games as PCC upped its overall record to 6-5-3 and 1-2-1 in conference.

With three minutes left in the first half, a great sequence of dribbling and offensive moves by Angel Ballesteros resulted in him getting tripped in the box. Jorge Cedillo, who already had three penalty kick goals, tried for his fourth but was denied on a diving stop by Compton goalie Issac Estrada. However, Emiliano Escobar raced in and blasted in the rebound for the game's lone goal.

Once again, PCC goalie Matthew Gilmore made some sensational saves to preserve the win. Gilmore, who made five saves overall, Gilmore stoned Alexander Gomez's redirect at the goal-line in the 23rd minute. In the 68th minute, the Tartars thought it would tie things, but a wide-open Hugo Reyes saw his goal-bid turned away on a brilliant acrobatic save by Gilmore.

In the second half, Alejandro Concepcion twice had great scoring chances. He hit the upper right post in the 49th minute and shot wide on a breakaway in the 73rd minute.

The game featured eight yellow cards issued, four for each team.

The Lancers next play at Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in a 4:30 p.m. conference match.
