Walnut, Calif. -- The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team cruised to a 9-1 victory over Compton College on Tuesday, February 11. This marks the third game of the season that has ended early due to the "run rule," with the Mounties leading by eight runs after five innings. With the win, Mt. SAC improves to 5-3, while Compton drops to 1-2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties came out strong from the start. Sarai Raygoza, the first batter of the game, led off with a single up the middle and stole second. Samantha Orozco followed with a single, advancing to second on an error by Compton's right fielder, allowing Raygoza to score. Audrey White's single brought in Orozco, and Amanda Porterfield's hit drove in White, giving the Mounties an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

The Tartars capitalized on some pitching mishaps from the Mounties when Angela Banderas was walked and Erin Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, to get two on base. Banderas was thrown out at home off a hit from Valeria De La O, but a single to left field from Audrey Garcia drove in Rodriguez to put the Tartars on the board 4-1 in the top of the fourth.

But the Mounties answered in the bottom of the fourth when they loaded up the bases with a single from Porterfield, a walk for Samantha Vizcarra and a bunt from Mia Martin. Raygoza singled into right field, driving in Vizcarra and Isabella Aspeitia, who was pinch running for Porterfield. Raygoza stole second and Martin ran home on the throw, increasing the Mounties' lead to 6-1 by the end of the fourth.

Mt. SAC kept the pressure on in the fifth inning. Aspeitia singled to right and stole second, setting the stage for a double by Vanessa Tomayo to drive her in. The Mounties sealed the game in the sixth when Desiree Morales hit a single up the middle, scoring Peyton Clark and Natalie Valiente to end the game with a 9-1 win.
