Baseball splits games this week, headed up North next

The Irvine Valley baseball team split nonconference games midweek.

The Lasers went on the road on Tuesday to College of the Desert and came away with an 8-0 win. It improved Irvine Valley's record to 5-3 overall.

It was IVC's second shutout of the season. 

Starring on the mound for Irvine Valley were sophomore right-hander Chris Cody, freshman righty Tyler Eastham, freshman righty Zack Marker and freshman right-hander Colin Rhee.

Cody pitched the first four innings, giving up just one hit and had one strikeout. Eastham earned his first win of the season with three shutout innings.

Marker and Rhee each pitched a scoreless inning to wrap the win up.

Freshman leftfielder Chase Quezada, freshman designated hitter Shaun McCaghren and freshman left fielder Kade Murray each had two hits on the day.

And Quezada, sophomore center fielder Shane Stafford, freshman outfielder Drew Seidel, Murray, freshman first baseman Jackson Snitko and freshman shortstop Wyatt Fischer each drove in a run.

Irvine Valley bounced back on Wednesday at home against Compton.

The Lasers had their chances, but lost, 7-6, in 11 innings.

IVC hurt itself with four errors in the contest.

Irvine Valley's AJ Newcomb took the loss in relief. He gave up three runs (none earned) in 0.2 innings pitched.

Quezada again had two hits and one RBI, Siedel finished with two hits, McCaghren ended with a double and three RBI, Snitko contributed two hits and freshman second baseman Gavin Grutzmacher had three hits, including a double with a walk and two RBI.

Irvine Valley plays again this weekend in Northern California. The Lasers travel to San Joaquin Delta in Stockton.

IVC plays Delta on Friday and Saturday.
