The MSJC baseball team kicked off their season on Friday and swept a doubleheader against Grossmont, and then backed that up with another home win on Tuesday over visiting Compton.

The Eagles season started with an exciting 7 inning victory over Grossmont 5-4 in the first game of a twin bill on Friday.  MSJC built a lead of 4-0 through the first four innings as Juni Rodriguez, Greg Luna, Christian Smith, and Adrian Vento each knocked in a run.  Grossmont would come all the way back though as they scored two in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the 7th, the final run on a balk, to tie the game at 4-4 going into the bottom of the last.  In the bottom of the 7th with two out Kyle Serna got to second base on a Grossmont error bringing Smith to the plate.  Smith came through with a line drive single to left field that drove in Serna with the winning run.  Joseph Romero had a solid start on the mound for MSJC as he went 5 innings allowing just two earned runs and striking out 8.  Trysten Eddy earned the win getting the final out in the top of the 7th.

In the second game of the day MSJC jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings and then exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 3rd on their way to an easy 15-6 victory.  Austin Sargent drove in 3 runs on 3 hits including a double.  Serna, Smith, Vento and Tanner Aoki each drove in two runs with Smith going 4 for 5 in the win.  Greg Luna scored 3 times and picked up an RBI.  Pierce Sailer pitched the 5th through 7th innings allowing just one unearned run to pick up the win on the mound.

Tuesday, MSJC kept the bats hot as they beat Compton 15-3 behind 16 hits.  This time it was Rodriguez who had a huge game at the plate as he went a perfect 5 for 5 with a homerun, a pair of doubles, and 6 RBIs.  Serna had 4 hits, 3 stolen bases, and scored 3 runs.  Luna, Aoki, and Dominick Lombardi each had 2 hits for the Eagles.  Sailer improved to 2-0 on the mound as he started and went 5 innings giving up two unearned runs.  He struck out 4 and walked just two.  Marcos Cisneros, Luis Ricardo Acevedo, and Alex Pintal combined to go 4 innings out of the bullpen allowing just one run.

The Eagles now 3-0 on the young season are set to host West LA on Thursday at 1 pm, but with rain in the forecast some scheduling changes may be forthcoming.  Check back on this site or on our social media pages for any updates or changes.
