W. Basketball: Cerritos posts convincing win over Compton

Taking on a shorthanded Compton College team on Friday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team registered a convincing 79-35 South Coast Conference South Division win on Friday night. It was the second straight win for the Falcons (6-13, 1-0), who opened divisional play with a victory. The team will travel to Los Angeles Soutrhwest College for a 7:00 p.m. game next Wednesday.

Cerritos scored the game's first eight points and never looked back, as they watched their lead grow with every minute of game played. They were able to execute their fast break and converted 38 Compton turnovers into 45 points. It was a 27-4 lead after the first quarter, while they took a 47-13 advantage into halftime.

By the end of the game, four of the five starters scored in double-digits, led by sophomore Damarie Saldivar (Paramount HS), who scored all 19 of her points in the first three quarters. She also recorded six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman Jayden Estrada (Anaheim HS), who knocked down four three-pointers, registered 14 points, while freshman Rayne Rodriguez (La Serna HS) contributed 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals off the bench.

The duo of sophomore Miah Nayback (La Serna HS) and Francine Carrillo (Cerritos HS) each scored 10 points and combined for 13 rebounds, with Nayback turning in eight steals. Sophomore Melana Goodloe (Warren HS) missed out on a double-double, as she finished with nine points and nine rebounds, as well as seven steals and four assists.
