(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball team won its fourth game in the last five outings, securing a convincing 13-1 victory over Compton College in South Coast Conference action on Tuesday, March 5th, at Mazmanian Field.
With the win, Mt. SAC improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in the SCC.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Mounties exploded for six runs on six hits, establishing a commanding 7-0 lead.
Highlighting the big inning was a two-run triple by third baseman Ty Thomas (2-3, 3 RBIs), which brought home freshman second baseman Joel Gutierrez (2-4, 3 Rs, 2 RBIs, SB) and freshman designated hitter Andrew Walters (1-4, 3 Rs, 3 SBs).
Following an RBI single by shortstop Joey Rossetti (2-2, R, RBI), right fielder Joel Quemada (2-3, R, 2 RBIs) doubled in two more runs, extending the lead to 7-0.
The Mounties added two more runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh, further solidifying their lead to 13-0.
Compton managed to add a lone run in the top of the eighth inning.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher Matthew Lorenzano (4-0) pitched seven innings, allowing only two hits while striking out six batters.
Sophomore shortstop Andrew Ramirez (2-4, 2 Rs, 2 RBIs, SB) also contributed with two hits in the game for the Mounties.
Mt. SAC will continue the three-game series on Thursday, March 7th, at Compton.
