Compton College Hosts South Coast Conference Championships

Compton, Calif. - Compton College Athletics hosted the South Coast Conference (SCC) championships at Wilson Park in Torrance, CA. The Mt. SAC Women's Cross-Country team claimed the South Coast Conference title on Friday. The Mounties tallied 20 points to finish first, while Cerritos and Los Angeles Harbor scored 48 and 93 points, respectively to finish second and third.

First-place finish for the women was Cerritos' Lauren Berg (19:06.2), The Tartara runner Estefany Mejia ran a time of (27:02) and showed great grit throughout the race.

The men's race followed with the Mt. SAC Men's Cross-Country team pulling off a rare feat at the South Coast Conference Championships at Wilson, taking first place as a team with a perfect score of 15 points. Long Beach (84 points) and El Camino (91) finished second and third, respectively.

What earned the Mounties a perfect score and the SCC title was Mt. SAC runners finishing in the top five spots of the race. Daniel Abdala (20:24.4), Jesse Alvarado (20:28.0), Zackary Alexander (21:07.1), Angel Perez (21:08.4) and Elijah Ocegueda (21:27.2) crossed the finish line in first through fifth places, respectively.

Compton College Tartars male runner, Owen Vasquez, finished with a time of (32:32) but was very inspired and motivated that his time will only improve. A special thank you to the cross country head coach David Austin for putting together a great event to represent the Compton College Athletics program well during the conference.
