Compton, Calif. - It was announced on Wednesday afternoon that freshman Graciela Gomez received the Compton Tartars 2019-2020 Women's Freshman of the Year Award. Gomez participated in three different sports programs at Compton during the 2019-2020 season. She also serves as the President of the newly created Student-Athlete Leadership Team.
Gomez participated on the cross country, track and field, and badminton teams this past year. She also participated on the 2019 softball team totaling up to four sports programs that Gomez participated on here at Compton College.
Gomez placed 32nd overall out of 52 athletes in the South Coast Conference Cross Country Championships. Throughout the season she dropped a total of four minutes in her 5K run. She also earned October's Student-Athlete of the Month.
Gomez has committed to Philander Smith College to further her cross country and track and field athletic career.
