Compton, Calif. - Freshman Jose Rodriguez scored the first goal of his hat trick in the second minute to lift the Tartars (2-2-1) to a 4-0 victory over Victor Valley (1-4-0) on Thursday afternoon.
Rodriguez nearly scored a natural hat trick, interrupted by freshman Alfredo Trujillo's goal in the 23rd minute, in which Rodriguez earned the assist. Rodriguez counted his second goal in the 55th minute, sliding in to score on the far side just in time on a cross by freshman Jose Ramirez off a feed from sophomore Felipe Cisneros for the team's third goal. His third goal came in the 65th minute off a feed from freshman Oscar Solano.
Freshman keeper Ruben Martinez (1-2) was perfect with four saves.
The mens' soccer team wraps up non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 21 at Oxnard at 4 p.m.
