Tartars Improve to 2-0 in Conference with Shutout of Long Beach

Compton, Calif. - The trio of sophomores Adrian Veliz and Ignacio Carrillo and freshman Juan Albizar led the Tartars to a 3-0 shutout, handing Long Beach its first loss of the season on Friday afternoon.

Veliz gave Compton the early 1-0 lead behind a penalty kick in the 17th minute before Albizar scored on a rebound off the crossbar on a shot by sophomore Ivan Vasquez in the 86th minute. Carrillo counted his goal with a feed from Vasquez the following minute.

The Tartars (8-1-1, 2-0) only allowed two shots on goal, four total shots in the game, with the defense counting both saves, helping sophomore keeper Larry Sanchez. Compton tallied 19 total shots in the game.

Compton heads to Cerritos next on Tuesday, Oct. 3 for a 2 p.m. start.
