Compton, Calif. - The Compton Tartars Men's Basketball team tipped off their season winning in an exciting game against the Victor Valley Rams to a score of 79-64.
The Tartars got off to a hot start led by their backcourt player Romaro Hutchinson and A Al Najim Ashley. Hutchinson lead the team in steals (5) and points (23). His backcourt teammate Ashley also sparked the Tartars with a team-high of four 3-pointers. The team was able to build a 20-point lead going into the half.
A surging effort from the Rams led to the score getting as low as eight points in the second half but the Tartars were able to prevail and win by 15 points. First-Year Head Men's Basketball Coach, Keith Hollimon, secured his first win at Compton College and at the community college level. Coach Hollimon was delighted by the great effort and play of his team, however he acknowledged that the team will continue to grow and develop.
The men's basketball team (1-0) next opponent will be at home against the Grossmont College Griffins on November 3rd at 6:00 pm.
