Dorsey Tabbed Next Head Football Coach

Compton, Calif. - The Tartar Athletics Department has tabbed Al Dorsey as the next head football coach, announced Tuesday.

Dorsey spent the past two seasons as offensive line coach and run-game coordinator for the Tartars.

"I am excited to move into the position of head coach of the Compton football program," Dorsey said. "And I am looking forward to helping the program grow by developing strong players with an excellent work ethic, while connecting with the community at large."

Prior to joining Compton, Dorsey coached at the high school level after a four-year stint as administrative assistant for the University of Southern California's football program under Pete Carroll. During his time with the Trojans, he helped with both the offensive and defensive line and assisted the team to three Rose Bowl games.

As a player, he began his career as linebacker at Long Beach City College, helping the team to a 1995 National Championship. His efforts earned him Defensive Player of the Year honors, and he was named All-American First Team. In 2010, he was inducted into the LBCC Hall of Champions.

After his two years with the Vikings, he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, as a two-year starting linebacker, earning All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention and an invitation to the Hula Bowl Senior Game. Post-college, he briefly played with the LA Avengers.

Dorsey earned a Bachelor of Arts from Cal and a Master of Arts from New Mexico Highlands in Kinesiology. He and his wife Charmaine have two children, Isaiah (13) and Savannah (11).
