Compton, Calif. - Freshman Shepherd Grant started the scoring for the Tartars on a pick six in the second quarter, but the Compton football team (0-5, 0-1) came up short, 30-20, against Pasadena (2-3, 1-0) on Saturday evening.

Sophomore quarterback Da'jon Dinkins connected with sophomore receiver Jordan Kelly for a 33-yard touchdown reception with less than a minute remaining to give the Tartars the 14-10 lead going into halftime.

But despite another touchdown in the fourth on a one-yard run by sophomore David Cooper, the Tartars were unable to match Pasadena's 20-point second half.

Dinkins paced all quarterbacks with 16 completed passes for 228 yards, while Kelly led the receiving corp with 78 yards. Freshman Bobby Simon was close behind with 76 yards, adding 27 rushing. Defensively, sophomore Zack Zavala counted eight tackles on the game.

The football team heads to East LA next on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
