Compton, Calif. - It was announced on Tuesday, April 30 that three of the Compton baseball student-athletes were honored with All-South Coast Conference South Division accolades. Sophomores Mike Hernandez, Shoma Yoshida, and Aaron Kirchner were all named to the South Division Baseball Second Team. Sophomore Nick Redick and freshman Dominic Masciel earned the Rawlings Gold Glove First Team nods.
Hernandez played in 34 games, 17 in conference as a second baseman for the Tartars. In conference he hit .362 during the season with 21 hits, including six doubles, one triple and adding eight RBIs and 16 runs. Hernandez also had a .519 on base percentage which allowed him to steal 10 bases during conference.
Yoshida played in 35 games, 19 in conference as a shortstop. He hit .373 during the conference season with 19 hits, including two doubles, one triple and adding nine RBIs and nine runs. Yoshida also successfully stole 20 bases throughout the season.
While being recognized for his participation in right field, Kirchner also was a first baseman for the Tartars. He played in 37 games, 21 in conference switching between first base and outfield. In conference he hit .299 with 23 hits, including one double, one home run and adding nine RBIs and 14 runs.
Redick has earned the Rawlings Golden Glove honor for the second season in a row. Primarily in center field, Redick completed the season with 105 putouts. He participated in 38 games with 34 hits, including seven doubles and one triple, 19 RBIs and 28 runs.
Masciel earned his first nod as the Rawlings Golden Glove recipient. He served as the starting catcher for the Tartars collecting a total of 212 putouts and 34 assists. Masciel played in 39 games this season and posted a .371 batting average with 53 hits including 14 doubles and two home runs, while collecting 31 RBIs and 16 runs.
The Compton Tartars finished their season with a 12-28 overall record and 7-15 conference record.
