Baseball Caps March with Pair of Wins over West Hills Coalinga

Compton, Calif. - Freshman Danny Hernandez recorded the win and a save in the Compton baseball team's 2-1 and 5-4 wins over West Hills Coalinga (1-20) on Saturday evening.

Hernandez threw two complete innings, allowing no hits and tallying a strikeout, in his second win and third save of the season.

In the first game of the doubleheader, it was a pitchers' duel with the Tartar defense completing a 4-6-3 double play to close out the ninth inning. Freshman Adrian Valtierra earned the walk-off two-out RBI-single to right center to score freshman Ryan Atencio after pair of bunt singles to lead off the inning.

Freshman Nick Redick made a diving play in right center to help preserve the final score in the top of the ninth in the second game, while freshmen Shoma Yoshida, Josh Fischer, and Atencio all earned two-hit outings.

Freshman Jesus Lopez (1-4) earned the win on the back end, throwing four complete hitless innings and fanning four.

The baseball team (9-19) remains home to host Cerritos on Tuesday, Apr. 3 at 2:30 p.m. to open up the three-game series against the Falcons.
