The Compton College baseball team defeated Rio Hondo College

The Compton College baseball team defeated Rio Hondo College 6-3 in the first game of their three-game series.  With the win the team is now at 14-19 overall and 5-12 in conference this season.

The Tartars got out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Jalen Ringwood started it off with a single to right field, Crixtian Tavares walked, and Andy Perez doubled to left field scoring Ringwood.  Tavares scored on a wild pitch and Perez was scored on an RBI hit by Jacob Pech giving the Tartars an early 3-0 lead.  The team also had outstanding plate appearances by Zaid Humphrey (4 for 4), Tervell Johnson and Andy Perez (3 for 5) and Sevon Battle (2 for 4).

Compton College starting pitcher Julian Berinti picked up his fourth win of the season going 7.0 innings and only allowing three runs. Rene Valenzuela closed out the game facing seven batters and striking out two.

The Tartars host another home game today, Wednesday, April 19, against Cerritos College and will return to their three-game series against Rio Hondo College with an away game on Thursday, April 20 and back home on Saturday, April 22.
